AHC's Staff

Joe Carleo, Executive Director
Joe has been AHC's Executive Director since 2000 overseeing all of the programmatic and operational aspects of the organization. Joe has been an advocate for the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS for many years and was AIDS Action Committee's Associate Director of Public Policy prior to his position with AHC. To further advocacy efforts that address homelessness and supportive housing for the broader disability community Joe founded the United Disability Housing Partnership in 2004 with the support and partnership of the Melville Charitable Trust. Joe is also currently serving as the President of the Board of the National AIDS Housing Coalition based in Washington, DC. Joe's background includes strong fiscal and administrative management experience and he holds a B.A. from Northeastern University.

Jonathan Sherwood, Deputy Director
Jonathan began at AHC as a Project Manager in 2001 and was quickly promoted to the position of Director of Technical Assistance. Jonathan oversees and manages all of the Technical Assistance work of the agency and serves as the lead contact between AHC HUD and the Office of AIDS Housing as well as regional HOPWA grantees. Jonathan has extensive knowledge of the HOPWA program and other housing and homelessness programs and has many years of experience in the supportive and affordable housing field. Jonathan holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Literature from the University of Virginia.

Rachel Kogan, Associate Director of Training and Evaluation
Rachel has been with AHC since 1999, overseeing evaluation and coordinating AHC's training series funded by the MA DPH HIV/AIDS Bureau. She has designed and completed multiple outcome evaluations for HIV housing programs and presents at local and national conferences on developing outcome evaluations. Rachel facilitated a statewide, peer-led evaluation of HIV/AIDS housing programs based on Standards of Care for HIV/AIDS Supportive Housing and led the effort to revise these Standards. She is currently at work on a national e-publication and training series on best practices for the HOPWA program. Rachel holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan.

Courtney Nielsen, Project Manager
Originally from Leyden, Mass., Courtney Nielsen received her B.A. in International Relations from Boston University in 2004 and is currently pursuing a Master's in Health Administration at Suffolk University. She comes to AHC from Adaptive Environments, where she served as fair housing specialist, and co-facilitated trainings in post-Katrina Louisiana on the Federal Fair Housing Act, ADA and Section 504.

Blair Cushing, Project Manager
Blair comes to AHC from Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership, Inc. (MBHP), where she worked as supported housing program coordinator. Her work involved the administration of subsidy programs for persons with disabilities, including HOPWA, Shelter Plus Care, and Section 8 special programs. Prior to moving to Boston in 2004, Blair worked as youth coordinator at the Latin American Association in Atlanta. She holds a B.A. from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.

Andrew Keys, Communications Projects Specialist
Andrew joined AHC in June 2005. He provides communications support to agency operations, Technical Assistance, and advocacy program staff as well as to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. His work at the agency includes maintaining/creating databases and the website, managing publications, planning events, designing and publishing AHC's e-newsletter, and managing the administrative aspects of the Board. Prior to AHC, Andrew worked in architecture and as a media researcher. He holds a graduate certificate in management of community organizations from Tufts University, and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Memphis.
