AHC Completes Regionwide HOPWA 101 Training Series

On January 20, AHC held a day-long HOPWA 101 training session at the DCI Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, which completed this training for all of the New England states. In the winter of 2004 AHC began this series with a two-day training in New Hampshire for HOPWA grantees and sponsors from New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. In June of 2004 we held a similar training for all of the Connecticut HOPWA recipients with two separate two-day trainings in Hartford, Connecticut. This most recent training was provided for HOPWA grantees and sponsors representing Massachusetts and Rhode Island. At all of the trainings, grantees and sponsors were given a great deal of general information about the HOPWA program covering issues such as eligible activities, documentation and grantee/sponsor responsibilities, as well as a fairly in-depth look HUD's HOPWA regulations. In addition, information tailored specifically to each of the geographic regions was also provided. Information and written materials from the trainings are available by contacting Anne Siegler at 617-927-0088, ext. 23, or at info@ahc.org.

The goal of this training series was to provide HOPWA grantees and sponsors with concrete guidance and tools to help them successfully administer their HOPWA grants. Managing HUD grants can be challenging, with a cross-hatch of memos, regulations and other guidance from various branches of the federal government that apply to project administrators. This training helped sort through these requirements and compile them for HOPWA grantees and service providers.

Overall, attendees at each were very positive about the training sessions and many people have sought additional follow-up technical assistance (TA) from AHC to ensure that they are utilizing their HOPWA funding as efficiently and effectively as possible. AHC looks forward to providing continued TA to all of our New England partners and to providing updates to the HOPWA training series as needed.
