FY 2007 Massachusetts State Budget Process Begins

Although there are still two months left in 2005 and it seems that the Legislature just finished work on the FY 2006 budget, the FY 2007 process has begun. On Thursday, October 20, HIV/AIDS advocates from across Massachusetts met in Sturbridge to discuss funding priorities. These discussions will form the basis for the Project ABLE's (AIDS Budget Legislative Effort) budgetary ask.

On the housing front, United Disability Housing Partnership, the cross-disability advocacy coalition staffed by AHC, will again be focusing on a number of line items, with the Alternative Housing Voucher Program (AHVP) being a top priority. Following the FY 2006 budget success in getting a $700,000 funding increase for housing vouchers directed at individuals with disabilities, United Housing will ask for a $1 million increase, which will bring total funding up to $4 million. This increase will provide over 150 new housing vouchers.
