Standards of Care
Programs funded by the Department of Public Health (DPH) are required to follow a series of guidelines outlined in the Standards of Care. In the fall of 1999, AHC was contracted by DPH to evaluate the level of compliance with the Standards of Care in 26 DPH funded housing programs across Massachusetts. AHC facilitated peer evaluations where two program directors from other programs, a case manager, and one to two residents were present. Where corrective action was needed, AHC helped programs write the action plans required by DPH. AHC compiled a report and submitted it along with the action plans to DPH in June of 2002. One of the recommendations of the report was to update the Standards of Care and bring them into better alignment with the needs and day to day operations of AIDS housing programs. This kicked off a revision process led by AHC that will culminate with the publication of new standards in summer 2003.
