As part of fostering the development of AIDS housing resources, AHC participates in and facilitates a variety of community planning activities and processes.
The assessment of housing need among people with HIV/AIDS in a community is often an integral part of the planning process. Click here for more information on AHC needs assessment activities.
Based on an in-depth knowledge of local needs and resources, AIDS Housing Corporation works with HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS) and Ryan White CARE Act grantees to respond to housing-related needs.
The federal housing program for people with HIV/AIDS, HOPWA, encourages the integration of AIDS housing services with other resources, for example the Ryan White Care Act program.
In Massachusetts, AHC facilitates regular meetings among the various HOPWA formula grantees in Massachusetts and Ryan White grantees, in order to better plan the delivery of AIDS-related housing and services.
Following needs assessment reports for Worcester, Middlesex and Plymouth counties in Massachusetts, AHC worked with formula grantees to implement recommendations. Follow-up to the reports included meeting with HUD Continua of Care groups in all three counties regarding report findings and planning recommendations.
AHC is completing an extensive needs assessment report for the State of New Hampshire. We will be working with HOPWA and CARE Act grantees, as well as Continua of Care contacts, to plan the implementation of report findings.
