The sound operation and management of existing programs is another crucial aspect of the success of AIDS housing programs. AHC assists programs by establishing and updating systems that ensure that the complex housing needs of people with HIV/AIDS are efficiently met and addressed.
Through its technical assistance grants, AIDS Housing Corporation is able to respond to requests for information and more extensive consultations across New England. Often, AHC is able to help programs with one-time technical questions, regarding such topics as HUD program regulations, leases, tenant selection, eligible activities, etc.
Occasionally, more in-depth assistance may be required. For example, AHC has assisted many AIDS housing programs in New England to develop and revise their operating policies and procedures. AHC stays up-to-date on topics regarding the management of successful supportive housing and works to transfer that knowledge to providers.
Recent examples of program support include:
- In-depth training on managing HUD contracts for a large, multi-program Boston agency
- Researching citizenship status requirements for various HUD programs targeting the disabled for various organizations
- Researching questions regarding restraining orders between residents for a Boston program
- Worked with various agencies to work "harm reduction" practices into their AIDS housing programs
- Sorting out property management and service providers roles in supportive housing for a scattered site program in Boston
- Help for a Worcester County program with setting up and implementing "Master Leases"
- Managing HOPWA long-term and emergency rental assistance
- Assistance with HOPWA and other HUD performance-based reporting requirements
- Input for a Boston community-based organization on asset management.
